A new step forward in ENGLOBE’s international strategy

ENGLOBE has submitted its Expression of Interest for the design services within the ISMEP Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Program. The initiative, financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), involves the full design of approximately twenty public buildings, primarily schools, distributed across the city of Istanbul.

This participation forms part of a broader strategy through which ENGLOBE aims to strengthen its presence in Türkiye, a country of strategic importance for design activities in seismic-risk areas and for the implementation of structured urban-resilience policies. Programs such as ISMEP require strong multidisciplinary expertise, making the Turkish market a natural context for the development of architectural, engineering, and building-safety services.

Scope of the procedure: integrated design of strategic public buildings

The requested service includes full design activities, from architectural concept development to the preparation of tender documentation. The scope includes:

  • conceptual architectural drawings for each site, calibrated to local conditions and stakeholder needs;
  • geotechnical investigations and data collection to assess soil conditions and foundation behavior;
  • detailed structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, fire-safety, communication, infrastructure, and external-works design, in compliance with the updated Turkish building codes for seismic-risk areas;
  • preparation of technical specifications, Bills of Quantities, and tender documents for the executive design package;
  • the possibility of developing buildings according to green building standards and post-disaster self-sufficiency criteria, integrating nature-based solutions.

ENGLOBE’s strategic interest in the Turkish market and in AIIB international programs

ENGLOBE has submitted its Expression of Interest for the Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness (ISMEP) Program, one of the most prominent international initiatives dedicated to large-scale urban seismic-risk reduction. The procedure, financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), concerns feasibility studies and the design of seismic-retrofit interventions for up to 60 public buildings across the city of Istanbul.

This initiative represents a strategic step for ENGLOBE in strengthening its presence in international markets, with particular attention to countries equipped with structured programs for seismic-risk mitigation, heritage rehabilitation, and retrofitting. In this scenario, Türkiye represents a strategic environment, with its history, regulatory framework, and high seismic risk aligning well with the capabilities of a group specializing in integrated design and complex public-building upgrades.

Scope of work: vulnerability assessments and design of interventions

The request for Expressions of Interest covers a multidisciplinary service that includes:

  • Vulnerability assessment of the entire area, through analysis of available data, in-situ testing, and targeted technical investigations.
    Preliminary and final design of seismic-retrofitting interventions, including architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical design, as well as cost estimates and bills of quantities.
    • Preparation of technical specifications, design drawings, and tender documents using the most advanced retrofitting techniques compliant with Turkish seismic regulations.
    Comparative cost analysis between retrofitting and demolition/reconstruction, with evaluation of the technical and economic feasibility for each public building.

The project focuses on building types of high social priority, including schools, hospitals, and public offices, which form the backbone of the city’s emergency-management system.

After the Silence, Rebirth: Reopening of Camerino’s Archbishop’s Palace and Diocesan Museum

Camerino, October 16, 2025 – After years of restoration and reconstruction, the Archbishop’s Palace of Camerino and the Diocesan Museum “Monsignor Giacomo Boccanera” have officially reopened, symbolizing the cultural and spiritual rebirth of the city and its community.

Since 2021, ENGLOBE has been responsible for the preliminary, detailed, and executive design, as well as the health and safety coordination during design, for the entire palace. This long and meticulous process has brought new life to one of the region’s most important architectural landmarks.

As stated by the President of the Marche Region, Francesco Acquaroli: “Reopening the Archbishop’s Palace and the Diocesan Museum represents a fundamental step for Camerino, for our region, and for the entire earthquake crater. Returning this place to the community means restoring a vital part of daily life and of the city’s identity.”

Built in the 16th century by Bishop Berardo Bongiovanni, the palace stands beside the cathedral and preserves layers of historical and architectural heritage. The project involved seismic strengthening, spatial reorganization, and restoration of the medieval underground areas, enhancing the original structure’s integrity and beauty.

Directed by Dr. Barbara Mastrocola, the Giacomo Boccanera Diocesan Museum displays works by Luca Signorelli, Giovan Battista Gaulli, Giovanni Boccati, Carlo Crivelli, and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, reflecting the rich spiritual and artistic legacy of Camerino’s diocese.

The reopening event, “After the Silence, Rebirth”, gathered President Acquaroli, Archbishop Francesco Massara, Reconstruction Commissioner Guido Castelli, Mayor Roberto Lucarelli, and numerous authorities and citizens.

For ENGLOBE, participating in the inauguration marked the conclusion of a journey that began in 2021 — a journey of silent rebirth, technical precision, and cultural commitment to restoring one of Camerino’s most treasured symbols.

Collaboration with Politecnico di Milano for Structural Analysis of Historic Vaults at the Ducal Palace of Urbino

A simplified FEM approach for assessing historic masonry vaults

As part of the restoration and seismic upgrading of the “Casermette” building—an annex of the Ducal Palace of Urbino and home to the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche—Englobe collaborated with the research team led by Prof. Gabriele Milani and Ing. Natalia Pingaro from Politecnico di Milano.

The study focused on the large-span brick barrel vault located in the basement level. A simplified nonlinear FEM model was developed using elastic-brittle truss elements and a heterogeneous discretization strategy, offering engineers a practical yet robust tool for structural analysis of heritage masonry.

The results were presented at COMPDYN 2025, one of the leading international conferences on structural dynamics and earthquake engineering.

From survey to validation

Englobe’s structural engineering team—Marco Magnani, Carlo Priori, and Guido Camarda—provided geometric surveys, construction data, and technical support based on their ongoing role in the structural design and site management for the restoration works.

This real-world data was integrated into the FEM model and validated against manual kinematic analysis and upper bound limit analysis software. The consistency among the methods confirmed the reliability of the proposed approach under both gravity and seismic loads.

The Italy–Libya Economic Forum, organized by the Italian–Libyan Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with local and international institutions, took place in Benghazi from June 24 to 26, 2025. A Strategic Agenda Across Italy, North Africa, and Europe

The week of June 23–26, 2025 marks a period of intense institutional and networking activity for ENGLOBE, fully aligned with its international expansion strategy and positioning within key technical and professional networks.

On June 23, ENGLOBE took part for the first time in the annual members’ assembly of OICE—the association affiliated with Confindustria representing organizations active in engineering, architecture, and technical-economic consultancy—following the consortium’s recent admission. The event provided an important opportunity to consolidate ENGLOBE’s presence at strategic discussion tables focused on the future of public procurement, international projects, and digitalization within the AEC sector.

From June 24 to 26, ENGLOBE is present in Benghazi for the Libya–Italy Economic Forum, organized by the Italian–Libyan Chamber of Commerce. The initiative represents a concrete opportunity to develop new relationships with public and private institutions and companies operating in urban reconstruction, housing, and infrastructure across North Africa.

Finally, on June 26 ENGLOBE will attend the International Conference Tall Buildings 2025, the 14th edition of the leading event dedicated to complex structural engineering and high-rise buildings. San Felice (MO): Restoration Works Begin on the Municipal Theater Damaged by the 2012 Earthquake

San Felice sul Panaro (Modena), June 10, 2025 – After more than thirteen years of closure, restoration works have officially begun on the Teatro Comunale of San Felice sul Panaro, one of the seven historic theaters in the Province of Modena, severely damaged by the 2012 earthquake. The construction site was formally handed over on Monday, June 9, marking the start of a complex intervention aimed at returning one of the community’s most symbolic landmarks to public use.

The Project Team and ENGLOBE’s Role

The project involves an integrated team of professionals coordinated by ENGLOBE, responsible for structural and geotechnical design and now also assuming the roles of Construction Management and Site Safety Coordinator during Execution.

Overall design coordination and the integration of specialist disciplines are entrusted to Arch. Giovanni Vincenti, while architectural design and historical research were carried out by Arch. Davide Calanca.

Restoration of the decorative elements is entrusted to Studio Forme snc, while the design of building systems, stage engineering, and fire safety systems is handled by IN.TE.SO. Ingegneria Srl.

Investment and Timeline

The project, with a total value of € 8.37 million, is funded with over € 7 million by the Regione Emilia-Romagna and €800,000 by the Comune di San Felice sul Panaro. The works are expected to last approximately two years, with completion scheduled for 2027.

A Renewed and Multifunctional Theater

The theater will accommodate 468 seats, distributed among the stalls, boxes, gallery, and upper gallery. It will be equipped with new stage engineering systems, audio-video technologies, safety systems, dressing rooms, a bar, cultural offices, and service areas. The space will be suitable for hosting theatrical performances, musical events, film screenings, conferences, and television broadcasts.

Mayor Michele Goldoni described the restoration of the Theater as “the beating heart of the city’s cultural life,” emphasizing the project’s strong identity value and its central role in the urban and social revitalization of the historic city center.
